farm to table

Farm to table is a movement in the culinary industry where the focus of the chef is to prepare food that is farm-fresh and locally sourced, thus eliminating the steps between where the food is grown and where it is eaten.  The United States is a little behind on this trend in cooking (Europeans have been focused on this for years) but we are finally catching up with rest of the world.  As individuals become more concerned with health and wellness, people are beginning to analyze their culinary choices more intently.  To me, farm to table is synonymous with the ideal dinner party; an intimate affair where guests contribute to the meal and spend hours around the table enjoying their food and the company of friends.  Next week marks the beginning of this HUGE food and wine festival in Maine.  Unfortunately, I cannot attend this year because I will be away.  Although I am excited for this trip, I have to admit I am disappointed to be missing the festivities, particularly the farm to table competition.  If you are in the area I highly recommend you attend at least one of the Harvest on the Harbor events.  To celebrate this festival and the season of harvest celebrations, I have created an inspiration board filled with my favorite farm to table images.
