College Send-Off Party

It is hard to believe that tomorrow is the first day of October!  The autumn season reminds me of so many things, but most of all I am reminded of that back to school feeling.  I consider myself pretty lucky because of all the years I was in school, I was always excited about going back to school.

Back in August, my husband and I had the opportunity to host a group of soon-to-be college freshman at our house for a small send-off party.  His college alumni association approached him about hosting this event, but we didn't find out until the very last minute that the party was a go.  Always looking for an excuse to bring memorable details to all of life's celebrations, I began thinking of ways that I could make this event extra special for these students.  My husband thought of the menu: pizza, celery and carrot sticks with blue cheese dipping sauce-- which was based on the food he ate most often when he attended St. Michael's-- and I thought of the details and the dessert.

I put together small floral arrangements to welcome guests that featured St. Michael's primary school color, purple.

The signature drink of the night was blueberry lemonade.  This was a perfect choice for the late-summer season, while also complimenting the primarily purple decor.  Kraft paper bags adorned with printed Washi Tape acted as carry-out bags for candy.

An assortment of mini-cupcakes from

were topped with collegiate flags that displayed the year these students would graduate from college, 2017.

Alysia of EEC

suggested mini-cupcakes in college friendly flavors like vanilla, chocolate with salted caramel (my favorite), blueberry with lemon, and red velvet.

It is always fun when I get to host parties at my own home, especially when they feel as effortless and fun as this one!
